At the groundbreaking ceremony held for the Kalayaan Avenue and BGC stations of the Metro Manila Subway Project in Taguig City last Friday, February 13, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. disclosed that over PHP49.98 billion was allocated for the Railway Sector under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in 2026.
Projects listed include station enhancements such as upgrades at the MRT-3 Quezon Avenue station, aimed at improving passenger flow and accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Meanwhile, to help ease financial burden on commuters, discounted beep cards on trains and cashless payments introduced in MRT-3 will continue.
Earlier this January, free Wi-Fi has been rolled out across all MRT-3 stations and several EDSA Busway stations by the DOTr and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Expanded services such as the Love Bus Libreng Sakay Program will continue to operate in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao—providing free rides to passengers daily.
