She is set to compete anew.
On Sunday, February 15, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala returns to the hard court as she marks her debut in the current season of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in the United Arab Emirates.
The said game, a round of 64 match, will be her second game this week after she made her early exit from the Qatar Open in Doha last Monday, February 9.
In Dubai, she is set to face Hailey Baptiste, who made it to the main draw after successfully making it in the qualifiers, in their match scheduled to happen at 3:00 pm (Manila time).
As for the 20-year-old, she was originally a wild card, but was promoted after American player McCartney Kessler withdrew from the WTA 1000 tournament due to an injury.
The week had been a roller-coaster ride for the Filipina player, who clinched her career-best ranking in the Women’s Tennis Association’s global singles index, where she took the 40th spot—five notches above her prior placement on the 45th spot.
However, depsite that and loud cheers from the Filipijo community in Doha, she bowed to Czechia’s Tereza Valentova in their Round of 64 match, 7-6(6), 6-1.
