Marcos confident about PH-US ties as nations mark 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Specifically on how the alliance will continue to advance with renewed conviction and commitment, he said.

On Monday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led a gathering attended attended by high-level Philippine and U.S. audience in Malacañan Palace.

During which, he unveiled the special logo that the governments of the Philippines and U.S. will use during commemorative activities throughout the year.

In his message, he said that the nations have bridged distance and differences, as guided by their shared history and common advocacies.

He added, “I am confident that this alliance will move forward with even greater conviction and commitment to the security, prosperity, and resilience of our peoples and of our region.”

The milestone of the bilateral ties will be celebrated on July 4, which is coincidentally the 250th founding anniversary of the United States.

PBBM said, “For 80 of those 250 years, the Philippines has been proud to call the United States a trusted friend, a steadfast partner, and an unwavering ally.”

Notably, the 75th anniversary of the Philippine-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty will also be in 2026.

Any enduring relationship requires commitment and sustained effort, and we have certainly done the needed work,” with the President also noting the broad and comprehensive cooperation across various areas addressing domestic, regional, and international concerns.

He added, “More importantly, we seize opportunities through bilateral, unilateral, and multilateral channels, while expanding our partnership into new frontiers such as cyber and outer space.”

He also lauded the US-Philippines Society for its pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations and told, “They have been instrumental in advancing our relations by facilitating new and dynamic linkages on both sides. Your tireless work behind the scenes is deeply appreciated.”

President Marcos then recalled his visit to the U.S. last year, where he is the first and, currently the, only leader from an Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) country so far to be invited to the White House by his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump during his second term.

Our positive initial engagement provided renewed momentum for sustained high-level exchanges, and more importantly, it reaffirmed the foundational groundwork that continues to strengthen our alliance,” he said.

In line with the Philippines’ Chairship of ASEAN, PBBM said he looks forward to a continued support for ASEAN community building from the United States through the comprehensive strategic partnership.

And we hope to welcome President Trump once again in Manila for the ASEAN Summit later this year,” he added.
