Making strides in the sport in the region.
Just two weeks after getting his first gold in the International Springer-Meeting in Cottbus, Germany, national pole vaulter EJ Obiena has added another one to his still growing haul.
This, as the 30-year-old athlete made a successful campaign at the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship held in Tianjin, China on Saturday, February 7.
Obiena was able to clear first the 5.50-meter bar. Afterwards, he did the same with the 5.70-meter one, but just in a single attempt.
The Pinoy rep also tried to clear 5.80 meters, but failed in his three attempts.
Li Chenyang of China also tried to clear 5.70 meters to challenge Obiena, but failed in all three attempts and settled for silver after successfully leaping 5.60 meters.
Getting the bronze in the competition, meanwhile, is Chen Yang, who bagged bronze after clearing 5.40 meters in one attempt.
It has been a great start of the season so far for EJ, who had also previously bagged a bronze in the 6th ISTAF Indoor Dusseldorf, which is also in Germany in late January.
He is set to return to European country for the INIT Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe 2026, which begins Sunday, February 8 (local time).
