It was a back-to-back challenge for the netter on Thursday.

At the ongoing Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open in the United Arab Emirates, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala continued to represent the Philippines.

On Thursday, February 5, the 20-year-old did a double duty after competing in both the women’s singles and doubles events.

In the former, the current world no. 45 was at the quarterfinal event, where she met opposition from world no. 11 Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia.

At the outset, the match was already an intense battle between them, with Alexandrova having consistently led it. Eventually, the game ended in just in two sets, 6-3, 6-3, quashing Eala’s hope of making it into the semis.

However, fresh from the end of her journey in the singles event, Eala moved on to the doubles court with her Indonesian partner Janice Tjen.

Together, they faced off the tandem between Chinese player Zhang Shuai and Spanish netter Cristina Bucsa.

The Southeast Asian duo was met with stiff competition, although they were clear that and take the victory, 6-3, 6-4, to enter the semifinals.

In the match, set for Friday, February 6, Alex and Janice will battle against Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls for the chance of making it to the doubles finals.
