Authorities lay down traffic scheme in North EDSA to facilitate MRT-7 construction

The large steel box girders will be built along the section from North Avenue to West Avenue in the next three months.

The large steel box girders will be built along the section from North Avenue to West Avenue in the next three months.

On Friday, January 30, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Quezon City local government unit (LGU) revealed their traffic management plan for the construction of a critical part of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7).

Specifically, the steel box girder will be constructed along the section fron North Avenue to West Avenue from February until May.

As per the traffic advisory provided, there will be partial to full road closures along certain sections throughout the period.

From February 1 to May 19, every 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, the section between Landmark-Trinoma at Common Station will be closed.

Portions of EDSA-West Avenue will also be having adjustments fron March 24 to April 29, 2026, also from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am. Two lanes will be temporarily closer, while the other four will remain open to motorists.

The EDSA Bus Carousel will also remain operational.

Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan explained the reason for the closure, telling, “Napakalaki po nung mga steel girder. Napakabigat ng mga steel girder. Halos 50 tons ang kailangan nating I-lift at I-install across EDSA at kinakailangan pong siguraduhin natin na ligtas po ang ating mga commuters, ang mga users ng EDSA habang itinatayo po natin ang mga girders na ito.”

Batan also stressed the importance of steel box girder in those specific locations to meet MRT-7’s target commencement of operations in the first half of 2027.

For his part, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said they traffic management and rerouting plans are in place to mitigate the jam that will be caused by the works.

Meron naman tayong mga traffic mitigating measures para sa pagkakaroon ng pagbigat ng daloy ng trapiko,” said Artes who also stressed the importance and long-term convenience that the MRT-7 will bring to commuters.
