The country will serve as the chair of the regional bloc next year.
On Tuesday, December 23, the Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas (BSP) revealed that it will be launching a special commemorative coin in January 2026, in line with the Philippines’ hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related meetings.
The special P10 coin, according to the central bank, “symbolizes ASEAN’s cooperation, economic integration, and the Philippines’ active role in shaping the region’s future.
The obverse side will retain the design of the currently circulating 10-piso from the New Generation Currency coin series, which features Apolinario Mabini.
Meanwhile, the design on the reverse side of the coin symbolizes ASEAN leadership and unity, with a QR (quick response) code directing users to the BSP website that links to the official web page of the Philippines’ ASEAN hosting in 2026 featuring updates and other information.
The Bangko Sentral also revealed that the coin is a legal tender at its face value, which means that it can be used for day-to-day transactions as well.
The ASEAN is composed of 11 countries in the region, with the annual summit being last hosted by the Philippines back in 2017.
