The project will last eight months.
On Wednesday, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced that tbe Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin the EDSA Rehab project on Christmas Eve, December 24.
The first phase will be done along the stretch from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Orense Street in Makati Citu.
He said that Japanese technology will be used to ensure that it will not only be built fast, but will also last. Moreover, it also costs only PHP 6 billion, compared to the original price of PHP17 billion.
He said, “‘Yung unang plano, dalawang taon minimum. Sabi ng Pangulo, hindi pupwede ‘yan. Kailangan ‘yan maiksi. Kailangan minimal ‘yung disruption, so, ang bagong plano, walong buwan na lang imbis na dalawang taon gamit ang stone mastic asphalt.”
For the Department of Transportation, Secretary Giovanni Lopez said that there will continue to be a dedicated lane for the EDSA Busway. He also vowed to ensure that there will be sufficient vehicles for passengers throughout the project’s implementation.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also said that it is ready to deploy additional traffic enforcers tp ensure smooth traffic flow.
“Bukod sa karagdagang mga MMDA personnel meron din pong alternative routes tayong bubuksan para tuloy-tuloy ang daloy ng traffic,” Chairman Don Artes said.
