The duo added one more to the country’s medal haul.
At the semifinals of the tennis mixed doubles event at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Wednesday, December 17, Filipino pair Alex Eala and Niño Alcantara faced off with Patcharin Cheapchandej and Pawit Sornlaksup of host country Thailand.
The two Pinoy players were able to narrowly score a win in the first round. However, the momentum slipped as soon as the second set started, with Eala and Alcantara falling short of the gold medal contention after losing the third set.
The scores were 7-5, 5-7, 7-10 and with that, Eala and Alacantara settled for a bronze in the mixed doubles.
Despite this development, hopes are still high for the country, especially Alex, who is heading to a gold medal bout of her own in the women’s singles category on Thursday, December 18.
She will be having a duel with Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand in the finals event, which will be held in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
Eala is aiming to bag the first gold medal in women’s tennis for the country in over 26 years.
