Cignal extends broadcast partnership with NBA

In its media release on Tuesday, December 2, multi-platform company Cignal announced that it has extended its broadcast partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) through a multi-year partnerships.

The tie-up, which started in 2020, will see NBA games and related original programming distributed through several platforms under Cignal and its affiliate companies.

Filipino viewers can witness select regular season, playoff and Conference Finals games, and NBA All-Star games live via free-to-air channels One Sports and RPTV, and the dedicated 24/7 premium channel NBA TV Philippines.

In addition, the NBA Finals every season will also be alternated between delayed and live coverage, beginning with a delayed broadcast in 2026.

Over-the-top sports-oriented streaming service Pilipinas Live will also serve as Cignal’s leading platform for its NBA coverage. Games and original programs on One Sports, RPTV, and NBA TV Philippines also becoming available to premium subscribers of the streamer.

Additionally, Cignal will also serve as the official broadcaster in the Philippines of the NBA Rising Stars Invitational, the NBA’s regional high-school basketball tournament that features boys’ and girls’ teams from across Asia-Pacific.

Meanwhile, related shows coming to the platforms are The Association, which will be a weeknight primetime “basketball-cast celebrating the game, players and the culture of the NBA,” and NBA Hype, a locally produced wraparound show featuring local sports personalities offering in-depth analysis on the latest NBA news.

NBA Asia Head of Content Partnerships and DTC Kelly Cooke called Cignal as its “trusted partner” that shares the league’s commitment of making the NBA accessible to more audiences nationwide.

As for MediaQuest Holdings and Cignal President & CEO Jane Basas, the extended broadcast partnership solidifies Cignal’s status as the “leading sports provider”in the Philippines.

She continued, “Our platforms across free-to-air, pay TV, social media and Pilipinas Live are there for every Filipino basketball fan to get the NBA content they need, whenever and wherever they want. We are grateful to the NBA and are confident that our enduring partnership with them will continue well into the future.”

When the partnership began in 2020, Cignal aired NBA games both live and on a delayed basis through One Sports and TV5 on free TV, as well as the NBA TV Philippines channel.

However, as TV5 shifted its focus on entertainment and news, the NBA’s broadcast was moved over to its sister channel RPTV, which also airs via RPN television stations nationwide.

Aside from Cignal, NBA games are also carried via the NBA League Pass, Disney+, and Prime Video, with each having separate carriage deals and broadcast setups with the league.
