On Sunday, November 23, young gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo competed in the Floor Exercise Finals of the Men’s Artistic Gymnatics division of the ongoing 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships in Pasay City.
During which, the 17-year-old who had injured himself during an exercise on Saturday, made a stellar routune, where he was able to execute a performance that earned him a 13.733 points in the finals.
This score allowed him to take the bronze medal, standing alongside gold medalist Yang Lanbin of China (13.833) and silver medalist Simone Speranza of Italy (13.766) on the podium.
Not only was his medal the first for him in the said global meet, but also for the country—which had also participated in two prior staging of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.
Before his medal-winning event, Eldrew, the younger brother of double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, placed 8th in the all-around finals on Saturday, where his injury occurred.
Meanwhile, he is set to continue his bid on Monday as he heads to the vault and horizontal bar finals.
Aside from his bronze, Eldrew previously won a silver medal in vault at the Asian Junior Championships in South Korea last June.
