She was known to be one of the biggest philanthropists in local showbusiness.
In a post on Saturday, November 15, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) announced that veteran actress and philanthropist Rosa Rosal had passed away at the age of 97.
“With deepest sadness, the Philippine Red Cross announces the passing of Governor Rosa Rosal,” the non-profit organization’s post read.
It continued, “For over 7 decades, Gov. Rosal devoted her life to the service of the Red Cross. She championed voluntary blood donation across the country, strengthened PRC’s welfare services, and used every platform she had to promote compassion, volunteerism, and the protection of the most vulnerable.”
The PRC also said that Rosal, who also hosted long-running public service programs Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko and Damayan, left behind a “legacy of genuine service, dignity, and love for humanity, a legacy that will continue to guide the Philippine Red Cross and inspire generations of volunteers.”
In a separate post, Philippine Red Cross chairman Dick Gordon mourned the passing of Rosa Rosal, paying tribute to the person whose life was “defined by compassion and unwavering service.”
He also emphasized her accolades for that she got for her outstanding service to the people, as Rosal got the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award—Asia’s highest honor—and the Order of the Golden Heart (Grand Cross) in 2006, a civilian distinction conferred by the President of the Philippines for a lifetime dedicated to public service.
Details of the wake will be shared once arrangements have been finalized, the Philippine Red Cross added.
