DOTr inspects buses in Cubao ahead of ‘Undas’ exodus

Checking on the preparedness of these terminals.

On Saturday, October 18, Acting Transportation Sec. Giovanni Lopez inspected eight bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City.

The said activity is in line with the Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s move to ensure the readiness of these facilities ahead of the expected exodus for the Undas holidays (or the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.)

During which, Lopez called out a bus company that remains non-compliant with a notice issued back in July, as well as terminal and road safety standards.

Hindi dapat panay kabig, kailangan may sukli sa pasahero. Pare-pareho lang namang nagbabayad ang mga pasahero. Otherwise, it’s unfair to them na nasho-short change sila,” said the acting transportation chief.

In spite of violations by other operators, the DOTr team reported that the likes Victory Liner, Inc., Viron Transit and Alps Bus Co. cater well to their respective passengers.

In line with that, Lopez has instructed operators to install steppers to help senior citizens and people with disabilities (PWDs) to board and alight from the bus, similar to the move done by Victory Liner.

Meanwhile, Acting Secretary Lopez emphasized that proper standards must be implemented across all bus terminals.

Requirements include proper seating area, ventilation, restrooms, rest area for dribers, and diaper changing area and lactation room for mothers.

In addition to that, Lopez also told the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to hand down fines for companies that are not complying with these standards.
