Effectively prohibiting the film from being shown to the public.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, director Rodina Singh disclosed that her upcoming film, ‘Dreamboi,’ has been given an X rating by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Films classified under this rating are prohibited from having a commercial, theatrical release in the Philippines.
“X-RATED SI DREAMBOI NEXT WEEK NA PREMIERE NAMIN PAANO YUN? Ang sakit,” wrote the filmmaker.
At present, MTRCB has not yet issued a statement regarding the rating that it gave to the movie, which has since received backlash from netizens online.
‘Dreamboi’ stars Tony Labrusca, EJ Jallorina, Migs Almendras, and Jenn Rosa.
According to the details provided by Singh on social media, it falls under the genres glam body horror, psychological drama, and erotica.
Its logline read, “In an attempt to revive her fading sex drive, Diwa turns to audio porn for pleasure. But when she becomes obsessed with overhearing a stranger having sex in the basement toilet of her building, she develops a voyeuristic habit that spirals into a parasocial relationship-only to realize the man is also her favorite anonymous audio porn actor, Dreamboi.”
This development also comes mere days before the movie’s scheduled October 22 premiere at the inaugural CineSilip Film Festival, which was formerly known as the VMX Film Festival—taking on the brand of a popular erotic-based streaming platform.
