Tremors were felt in various areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila.
On Saturday, October 11, a Magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the town of Cabangan, Zambales at 5:32 pm.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the said event was a tectonic in origin and had a depth of 100 kilometers.
Based on its instruments, Intensity III was felt on Cabangan and Iba, Zambales. Meanwhile, Intensity II was reported in Calumpit, Bulacan; San Fernando, La Union; Guimba, Nueva Ecija; Dagupan City; Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac City, and Ramos in Tarlac; Botolan, Subic and San Marcelino in Zambales.
While aftershocks are expected, the state seismologists noted that there are no damages from the said quake.
Saturday afternoon’s shaking happened two days after a Magnitude 4.4 jolted Pugo, La Union, which reached multiple areas in Northern Luzon, on Thursday, October 9.
Meanwhile, it also adds to the string of seismic events that occurred in the country in the past weeks—which include the Magnitude 6.9 in Bogo City, Cebu on September 30 and the twin Magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 on October 10 in Davao Oriental that are considered to be “doublet earthquake” by PHIVOLCS.
