DOTr opens modern PUV stops in Marikina

The facilities will benefit cyclists, as well as those belonging to the vulnerable sector.

On Tuesday, October 7, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Marikina City local government, unveiled End-of-Trip Cycling Facilities and Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) stops in Concepcion Elementary School and San Roque Park.

These DOTr-funded stops, which are being touted as sustainable and modern, are seen to benefit Marikina City residents, especially persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens, pregnant passengers, and cyclists.

Each PUV stop has benches for general commuters and designated seats for PWDs, pregnant passengers, and senior citizens.

Acting Transportation chief Giovanni Lopez noted, “Ito na po ang magiging template natin sa mga PUV terminals dahil ang bilin ng Pangulo, pagaanin at gawing ligtas at syempre maginhawa ang biyahe ng ating mga komyuter.”

He furthered that these PUV stops are also equipped with CCTV cameras, a lighting system, concrete bollards, tactile pavement for visually impaired, charging stations, solar panels, and a bike repair station.

Bike map panels are likewise integrated in the PUV stops, which will equally promote sustainability and encourage active transport.

“May bike repair station dito so sa mga may bisekleta, pwede nyo po ayusin. Ang pakiusap lang namin ‘wag nyo po kukunin ‘yung mga tools dito para magamit pa rin po ng iba,” Lopez added.
