During an inspection at the Iloilo Airport on Saturday, September 27, acting Transportation Sec. Giovanni Lopez directed the Iloilo Airport to remove the initial security screening process at the airport.
He gave a 15-day deadline to the airport management to submit their action plan regarding the new policy, which aims to free up more space for passengers using the facility.
“Kailangan nang tanggalin ito kasi redundant na ‘yung proseso. ‘Yan din ang bilin ng Pangulo, maglaan ng mas malaking espasyo para sa mga pasahero, para hindi sila magsiksikan sa check-in,” said Lopez.
He assured passengers that there will still be a final security check before entering the boarding gates to ensure security at the airport.
In addition, the airport management was also ordered to finalize plans on the expansion of the airport’s passenger terminal building.
Lopez also directed the fast tracking of the implementation of the automated check-in with facial ID recognition, which will help ease congestion of passengers during peak times.
“Tuloy-tuloy ‘yung commitment natin to modernize our regional airports. Our passengers deserve the best travel experience, at ‘yan ang gagawin natin,” the ating transport chief furthered.
Also pointed out during his visit was runway improvements to service bigger aircraft, which would help boost its passenger capacity for international flights.
