Alex Eala enters Guadalajara 125 second round

The rising Filipina tennis star is back on the court.

The rising Filipina tennis star is back on the court.

In her match early Wednesday, September 3 (Manila time), World No. 75 Alex Eala from the Philippines bested her opponent, Arianne Hartono from The Netherlands in the first stage of the Guadalajara 125 in Mexico.

Eala secured her win, her fourth against the same player, after she overwhelmed the Dutch woman that is currently ranked World No. 187 in the game that saw the score, 6-2, 6-2.

The strong showing comes after the 20-year-old ended her campaign at the US Open 2025 in New York last August 27 after losing her bout with Cristina Bucșa.

Although, she was also able to pull off at the same tournament the historical win against Clara Tauson, which helped Alex become the first Filipino player in history to win a Grand Slam main draw in the Open Era—a feat that also belongs to her streak of record-making moves earlier this year.

The list includes her historic runner-up finish at the Eastbourne Open Finals and the main draw match against Barbora Kerjcikova at the Wimbledon.

Alex will be facing off against American player Varvara Lepchenko in the second part of the tourney, which will be a Round of 16.
