‘Primera Kontrabida’ Gladys Reyes signs with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic

On Thursday, August 28, one of the country’s finest actresses, Gladys Reyes, officially kickstarted a new era in her career.

This, as she inked her management deal with ABS-CBN’s talent group, Star Magic, during a contract signing event at the Dolphy Theater in Quezon City.

Present at the contract signing were ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, COO Cory Vidanes, group CFO Rick Tan, entertainment production and Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi, and Star Magic manager Gidget Dela Cuesta.

In the same event, a reel that looked back on her journey from being a contestant in Little Miss Philippines 1984, her iconic character Clara del Valle in ‘Mara Clara,’ and her other projects.

She was also congratulated by her family for the new career milestone. Sending in their messages were her husband, Cristopher Roxas, and their son and now fellow Star Magic talent, Christophe Sommereux.

I’m just so happy because this feels like an answered prayer for my career. I’m looking forward to more meaningful and challenging projects. It’s really touching to still feel the respect and appreciation after all these years,” she said. 

Gladys also turned emotional as she expressed how grateful she is to still feel respected as an artist after four decades in the industry.

There’s still so much I want to do. Aside from TV dramas, I want to host again so I can show my candidness and my true self—whether it be a talk show, a variety show, or even a game show,” she added.

Aside from that, she also revealed her wishlist of Kapamilya stars that she wants to work with, namely, Maricel Soriano, Sharon Cuneta, Jodi Sta. Maria, Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Kim Chiu, Belle Mariano, and Donny Pangilinan.

At present, Reyes is seen as Hazel Cruz in the ongoing GMA afternoon series ‘Cruz vs. Cruz’.

She was also part of the cast of the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival movie “And The Breadwinner Is…”, alongside Vice Ganda, Jhong Hilario, Eugene Domingo, Maris Racal, Kokoy de Santos, and Anthony Jennings.

Recently, she was recognized as Child Icon of Philippine Cinema, along with her ‘Mara Clara’ co-star Judy Ann Santos, at the 73rd FAMAS Awards.
