As part of the current admin’s push for active mobility.
Recently, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Sec. Vince Dizon, Department of Budget Management (DBM) Sec. Amenah Pangandaman, and House Transportation Committee Chair Franz Pumaren inspected the existing bike infrastructure at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
This, as the Transport department and the Quezon City local government are teaming up for the improvement works of the active transport infrastructure and establish green spaces in the city.
This is part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.‘s directive of creating commuter-focused facilities to ensure safety and mobility of commuters, cyclists and pedestrians.
“We really have to do it. Sinabi na mismo ng Pangulo komyuter naman ang isipin natin. We really have to change our mindset,” Secretary Dizon.
He also noted that the expansion of these bike lanes, as well as PUV stops and pedestrian lanes, are part of the government’s commitment to create a commuter-oriented public transport system.
Part of the works to be done in Quezon City are the expansion of bike lanes, construction of PUV stops and the development of a directional island at the intersection of East Avenue and Elliptical Road.
“This really sets the standard for our commuters, pedestrians and bikers—they feel safe, may greenery. Gagayahin natin ito sa ibang lugar,” the transport chief said.
Aside from these, the three officials also visited last Thursday, August 7, the EDSA Busway network, which would also see its own rehabilitation project to further improve the commuting experience of the public.
