As part of actions being conducted by the government to make the system a “commuter-centric” one.
On Thursday, August 7, several cabinet officials led by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, House Transportation Committee Chair Cong. Franz Pumaren, inspected the EDSA Busway.
They were at the SM North EDSA and North Ave. stations as part of the directive made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to hasten the modernization of the said system.
According to Sec. Vince Dizon, the EDSA Busway Rehabilitation will commence this year, with several stops along the bus lane to be patterned after the SM North EDSA, which was constructed with lift access and direct link to landmarks like the its namesake mall.
“Ang sinabi ng Pangulo sa latest na podcast niya: tama na ang pagiging car-centric natin pagdating sa transport infrastructure. Kailangan maging commuter-centric na tayo, so kailangan natin i-improve ang imprastruktura para sa mga komyuter natin,” emphasized Dizon.
He added, the first phase of the rehabilitation will begin with four stations, with three more to be added in the next phase including the PITX and Cubao stations.
At present, the transport official told, the system serves 250,000 passengers daily.
