Noting the sheer number of registrations processed within a short period.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said kn its statement on Monday, August 11, that during the 10-day voter registration period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections from August 1-10, 2025, a total of 2,727,643 voter registration applications nationwide have been processed.
It described it as being “the most successful and most number of applications received in the shortest period of voter registration in history.”
“Almost 2.8 million ang lahat ng nagpunta sa sa registration sites natin. 65 percent nito [ay] kabataan. Overall napakapeaceful ang registration natin, matagumpay ito. […] Asahan natin na pagdating ng kahit anong eleksyon, dadagsain ng mga kababayan nagin ang polling precincts. Nagbago ang ating mga kababayan, lalo na when it comes to political maturity,”, expressed COMELEC Chairman George Garcia.
The commission noted that the voter registration applications received by them will undergo an Election Registration Board Hearing for its approval or disapproval on August 25, 2025 (all regions except BARMM) and August 22, 2025 (BARMM).
“The COMELEC will continue with its preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataang Elections despite looming postponement,” the agency noted.
This, as the enrolled bill seeking to postpone and reset the December 1, 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections shall automatically lapse into law on August 14, 2025 or it will be signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself—given his recent pronouncement.
