It is also the country’s second busiest gateway.
In a recently-published list of aviation consultancy firm Skytrax, it named the 10 “Most Improved Airports in the World.”
According to the U.K.-based group, Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is 7th placer for 2025, becoming the only Philippine air hub to make it to the index.
It also joins other airports in other parts of the world, led by first placer Berlin Brandenburg in Germany, followed by Almaty International Airport in Kazhakstan at second place.
Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport at number 3, London Gatwick Airport in England, which took the fourth spot, and Taiwan Taoyuan Airport in 5th place.
In its social media post, MCIA operator Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp. shared, “We’ve earned another global nod, and this time from the highly respected Skytrax! MCIA has been named the 7th Most Improved Airport in the World at the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards, the ultimate benchmark in aviation excellence, and the ‘Oscars of Airports’.”
The group added, “Better passenger flow, faster service, more thoughtful spaces, and proudly Filipino details — every upgrade we’ve done brings us closer to our vision of becoming the Philippines’ top transfer and transit hub. This one’s for Cebu, and for every traveler who believes in better.”
Among the many improvements that it has had over the years, Mactan-Cebu, which currently has two terminal buildings, inaugurated last January 2025 the first parallel runway in the Philippines to date.
It is also the busiest airport in the Visayas region, having served 8.5 million domestic passengers and 2.8 million international passengers in 2024.
