If you have been on a certain side of social media, you would know that this Filipino pop song is currently among the trending sounds online.
Titled ‘Hot Maria Clara,’ the track was released by Kapuso actress Sanya Lopez back in July 2022 under GMA Music.
While it received relatively modest promotions on the network’s variety shows ‘All-Out Sundays,’ ‘TikToclock,’ and ‘Sarap ‘Di Ba?’, the single did not chart during that year.
Anyhow, the song was brought back to the scene, thanks to TikTok clips that “meme-ified” or remixed it with other tracks.
Comments were wide-ranging, with some getting hooked and having “LSS” or last song syndrome with the chrous, while others were rather baffled by the lyricism or the aesthetics of the music video.
Apart from that, Sanya, who is known for her iconic roles like Sang’gre Danaya in ‘Encantadia (2016)’ and Melody in ‘First Yaya,’ has also been given a new moniker by the commenters themselves.
She has been proclaimed as Asia’s Mekaniko, which references the lyrics of the song in its chorus: “I’m a hot Maria Clara, like kotseng magara, don’t need a mekaniko.”
Due to its newfound virality, it rightfully entered the Viral 50 Philippines chart of music streaming platform Spotify, which was issued on Sunday, June 8.
At present, the YouTube views for the ‘Hot Maria Clara’ music video are also growing, logging over 425,000 as of press time.
Meanwhile, Sanya is expected to reprise Danaya in the upcoming telefantasya sequel series ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’, which will make its premiere on Monday, June 16.
