The TV hosts have shared their sides on the matter.
Kim Chiu and Vhong Navarro, hosts of ABS-CBN variety show ‘It’s Showtime,’ became the subjects of a controversy this week.
Both Kapamilya personalities received backlash on social media after clips of their opening spiels during the program’s March 12, 2025 episode made rounds.
Netizens, predominantly supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte, took offense on the line “dasurv,” which they linked to the arrest of the former leader by the International Criminal Court (ICC) the day prior to the show.
“Hoy! Kaloka kayo. Binasa ko lanh yung script namin na spiels. Kayo talaga! GV GV lang tayo spread kindness and good vibes,” tweeted Kim on X, formerly Twitter.
Vhong, meanwhile, shared a copy of the script that they read that day, and wrote: “Ako po ay nagtatrabaho lang at binasa ko lang ang spiels ko. Wala po akong masamang intensyon. Love and peace!“
‘It’s Showtime’ and ABS-CBN did not issue any official statement on the controversy.
The program is currently the leader in its slot, a position it has consistently held since it launched its GMA simulcast in April 2024.
Apart from the Kapuso network, ‘Showtime’ is also seen on the Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, ALLTV, Kapamilya Online Live, Kapuso Stream, and iWantTFC.
Global broadcast is available via TFC and GMA Pinoy TV.
