The polling body has invited her to be acquainted with the commission’s duties.
Chairman George Garcia of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said on Monday, March 3, that their team has reached out to ‘It’s Showtime’ contestant Heart Aquino.
According to Garcia, Aquino will be brought to their main office in Intramuros, Manila on Tuesday, March 4.
The COMELEC chief also took the gaffe as their responsibility, saying, “We fully understand her. Maaring madami pa na katulad nya na kabataan o mga Filipino.”
He also added, the meeting is “[f]or our full understanding as to why (she is not familiar). It is our failure. We have to immediately rectify (this matter).”
Aquino is the viral 20-year-old contestant in the ‘Sexy Babe’ segment of noontime show ‘It’s Showtime,’ who drew mixed reactions over her response to a question during the February 28 episode.
In the Q&A portion, she was asked for her message directed to the COMELEC. However, to the surprise of the hosts and audience, Aquino admitted that she is not familiar with the commission.
“Sorry po, hindi po ako masyadong knowledgeable sa COMELEC,” she nervously chuckled as she admitted that she is also not yet a registered voter.
Host Vice Ganda also called the situation on-air as “bothersome,” as she also tried to familiarize the contestant with the basic functions of the body.
The COMELEC is currently preparing for the upcoming 2025 national midterm elections, which is due to take place on Monday, May 12.
