These announcements come after the historic occasion was declared a “special working day.”

Multiple universities and colleges around the country have suspended classes on Tuesday, February 25, to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.

The list is led by the Immaculate Conception Academy, La Salle Green Hills, Saint Pedro Poveda College, and Xavier School.

These institutions form the EDSOR Consortium, which is an association of schools in the EDSA-Ortigas area, which is also where the EDSA Shrine is located.

In its statement, it said that it “[…]reaffirms the continuing significance of February 25 as the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution,” as such, the schools have agreed to celebrate this date as a “special non-working holiday despite Malacañang’s exclusion of this historical event.”

“Recognizing our responsibility as educational institutions, we remain committed to preserving the relevance of the EDSA People Power Revolution, particularly for our current and future generations of students. We will continue to keep the spirit of EDSA alive despite active efforts to undermine it,” the consortium added.

Apart from them, the De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas have also likewise canceled classes on Tuesday to commemorate the historic event.
