A group said they ask for “fairness” and hope the discount would used by those it “was meant for.”
In a statement published on Tuesday, February 4, the Restaurant Owners of the Philippines (RESTO PH) called out the “widespread abuse of fake PWD cards,” which it says has been putting serious strain on restaurants and other businesses.
PWD refers to persons with disability.
“Many people don’t realized that it’s not the government covering the 20% discount — it’s the businesses themselves,” the statement continued.
RESTO PH also shared that every fraudulent discount cuts into the “already thin margin” that these businesses get.
“For restaurants, especially small and family-run ones, this isn’t just inconvenience — it’s a financial hit that can mean the difference between survival and closure,” adding that multiple fake PWD IDs used at a single table, the “losses can be devastating.”
It also underscored, “This isn’t just about lost revenue; it affects employees, food quality, and even menu prices for honest customers.”
“We’re asking for fairness. The discount should help those it was meant for, not be a loophole for those looking to save a few pesos at the expense of struggling businesses.”
“If you care about the restaurants you love, help protect them — say no to fake PWD cards,” the group called the public’s action on the matter.
