The biggest networks and their stable of stars will be joining forces for the upcoming season.
On Monday, January 27, long-running franchised reality program ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ formally unveiled the ‘Big Announcement,’ which it teased last week.
To share the major development, ‘Kuya’ invited “24 Oras” showbiz anchor Iya Villania to his house.
There, ‘Big Brother’ revealed that ABS-CBN Studios, which owns the rights for the local franchise, and leading television network GMA will be teaming up for an exciting season.
Titled ‘Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition Collab,’ artists from the Kapamilya talent center Star Magic and the Kapuso management group Sparkle will be living inside the “most-popular house in the country.”
Additionally, the new ‘PBB’ installement, which will happen during its 20th anniversary this 2025, will be aired for the first time on GMA Network.
A contract signing event between ABS-CBN and GMA executives will also take place on Tuesday, January 28, inside the ‘Big Brother’ house.
The upcoming ‘Collab’ season marks the return of the standalone celebrity edition 18 years after the second series, which aired back in 2007.
Aside from that, ‘PBB Collab’ will also be the third television co-production between ABS-CBN and GMA.
In 2023, they have inked similar deals for the teleserye ‘Unbreak My Heart’ and the Kapuso simulcast of Kapamilya noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ in 2023.
Last year, their partnership extended to the big screen, as Star Cinema and GMA Pictures collaborated for the mega-blockbuster movie ‘Hello, Love, Again’ starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards.
‘HLA’ logged over Php 1 billion in the box-office, becoming the first-ever Filipino film in history to do so.
Back to ‘Pinoy Big Brother,’ its launch in 2005 came amidst the reality and game show frenzy that swept the nation.
During its first season, it became a massive hit due to the novelty of the concept, as well as the controversies that sprung up in the show.
In one instance, then would-be first ‘Big Winner’ Nene Tamayo lambasted Big Brother due to a challenge that involved them burning objects they hold dear.
After the success of the first “regular” series, the program had various editions exclusive to a particular group, such as ‘Celebrity’ and ‘Teens.’
In the past decade, however, these editions have since been fused into one — a practice that began with ‘All In’ in 2014, followed by ‘737’ in 2015, ‘Lucky 7’ in 2016, ‘Kumunity’ in 2021, and ‘Gen 11’ in 2024.
