Marcos reviewing proposed new government office hours in Metro Manila

The proposal would see an earlier schedule for all branches based in the capital region.

The proposal would see an earlier schedule for all branches based in the capital region.

President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, on Monday, January 20, shared his thoughts on the planned new working hours for government offices in Metro Manila.

He confirmed that his office has heard of the proposal, but noted that the commuting public will also have to be weighed in.

“It’s not enough to talk to the traffic enforcers and the administrators of traffic that have made the suggestion. We also have to ask the commuting public kung praktikal para sa kanila,” PBBM said.

It was last Friday, January 17, when Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Don Artes said that he is planning to submit a plan to shift the government working hours in the National Capital Region (NCR).

From the current 8:00 am to 5:00 pm schedule, he is seeking to move it an hour earlier to 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, in a bid to combat the worsening traffic conditions in Metro Manila’s roads.

He also cited that 37% of employees in the government utilize private vehicles, hence a slightly earlier time for them could benefit the general public.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora has expressed his support for the proposal, although other local chief executives in the region have yet to weigh in on the matter.
