It was an “hagulgol-fest,” many viewers described.
ABS-CBN Studios’ ‘Saving Grace,’ starring Julia Montes, Sharon Cuneta, and Zia Grace, uploaded its final two episodes on streaming platform Prime Video last Thursday, January 9.
The Filipino adaptation of the popular 2010 Japanese series titled ‘Mother,’ viewers were given a dramatic end to the 14-episode journey of Anna (Julia Montes), Miranda (Sharon Cuneta), and Grace (Zia Grace).
Immediately after the episode was released, the scene where Miranda succumbed to colon cancer made rounds online as audiences were impressed yet again by the acting given by Julia Montes.
Moments during the courtroom scenes, as well as the last sequence that saw the grown-up Grace, portrayed by ‘PBB Gen 11’ 4th big placer Kai Montinola, also trended.
‘Saving Grace’ is the 10th adaptation of the series, which was first broadcast by Nippon TV in April 2010 and starred Yasuko Mastuyuki.
Since its release almost 15 years ago, ‘Mother’ has been localized in nine (9) other countries, including South Korea, China, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, France, and Spain.
It is also the fourth ABS-CBN production to premiere first or exclusively on the platform, following Arjo Atayde’s ‘Cattleya Killer,’ and Kim Chiu’s ‘Fit Check: Confessions Of An Ukay Queen,’ and ‘Linlang.’
‘Saving Grace’ also marks both the small-screen comeback and reunion of Julia Montes and Sharon Cuneta, following their respective stints as Mara and Aurora in the longest-running primetime action drama ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ in 2021.
Joining them in the cast of the new drama are new child star Zia Grace, Sam Milby, Janice de Belen, Jennica Garcia, Christian Bables, Eric Fructoso, and Elisse Joson, among many others.
It is under the direction of FM Reyes and Dolly Dulu.
Meanwhile, the teleserye version of ‘Saving Grace’ will be aired on primetime via ABS-CBN platforms, A2Z, and TV5 in March 2025.
