The Philippines’ longest-running morning show has been waking up the nation for a quarter of a century.
On Friday, December 6, GMA Network’s morning program ‘Unang Hirit’ hit another milestone in its storied run as it officially turned 25 years old.
To mark the occasion, the broadcast was brought outdoors, with a special set-up complete with audience members seated in front of the GMA Network Center building in Quezon City.
While the latest news and happenings were still delivered, special segments in connection with the show’s silver anniversary, dubbed as the ‘National Unang Hirit Day,’ were aired.
‘Kara Docs,’ hosted by Kara David, looked back on the start of ‘Unang Hirit’ back in 1999, as well as the lives that the show has touched over the years.
This includes the 33-year-old man named JR, who was 8 when the show began airing before the start of the new millennium.
During the special live episode on Friday, he was also given special gifts by the whole ‘UH Barkada’ as appreciation to his continued support over the past two-and-a-half decades.
Aside from the ‘National Unang Hirit Day,’ this week, the show’s anchors and presenters also made appearances in various Kapuso programs like ‘Family Feud,’ ‘Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,’ and ‘It’s Showtime.’
‘UH’ also launched last Monday, December 2, the revamped jingle sang by Jose Mari Chan, Mark Bautista, and Zephanie.
