It is the sequel to the top-rated action drama series of 2022.
On Wednesday, December 4, GMA Network began airing the first teaser for the upcoming primetime action series ‘Lolong: Bayani Ng Bayan.’
In the 30-second-clip, lead star Ruru Madrid, who is referred to as the Primetime Action Hero, is seen performing a choreographed stunt while being drenched in water.
The program’s launch date was also revealed to be taking place in January 2025 on GMA Prime, the Kapuso network’s primetime block.
Produced by GMA Public Affairs, the first season of ‘Lolong’ aired in 2022 and was conceptualized by none other than veteran broadcast journalist Jessica Soho.
According to Soho, the idea came from their multiple features on ‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’ that tackled the situation of villages in Palawan, where human settlements are oftentimes marred by incidents caused by lurking crocodiles.
During the TV drama series’ original run over two years ago, it recorded high viewership figures, peaking at 19.3% during its finale episode in September that year.
In ‘Lolong: Bayani Ng Bayan,’ Ruru Madrid will be joined by his returning season 1 castmates Jean Garcia, Rochelle Pangilinan, Paul Salas, Shaira Diaz, Maui Taylor, and Alma Concepcion.
Meanwhile, taking on new roles are the likes of John Arcilla — who Madrid worked with in the ‘Encantadia’ remake in 2016, Tetchie Agbayani, Leo Martinez, Shamaine Buencamino, Nikki Valdez, Rocco Nacino, and Martin del Rosario.
‘Lolong: Bayani Ng Bayan’ will also reportedly replacing ‘Pulang Araw,’ which will end its run in December 2024 after airing its 110th episode, on the 8:00 pm time slot.
