Miss Universe 2024 coronation night takes place in Mexico

For the first time in its history, more than a hundred candidates are competing for the crown.

On Sunday, November 17 (Manila time), the 72nd edition of the Miss Universe happens at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.

126 delegates from countries all over the world are vying to get the coveted ‘Lumière de l’Infini’ crown, which stands for ‘light of infinity’ and was created by the Philippine-based Jewelmer.

Chelsea Manalo, our Miss Universe Philippines 2024, represents the country at the pageant.

Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo and Marion Lopez return to host the night together, marking their reunion after their stint in 2021.

Miss Universe 2018, the fourth Filipina winner in history, Catriona Gray has also been tapped to become the backstage host for the third consecutive edition.

• The Philippines’ Chelsea Manalo has ended her Miss Universe 2024 journey after she was not selected to become part of the Top 12 candidates that will proceed to the next round of the competition.

• Singer Robin Thicke is the special guest performer for the evening gown segment featuring the Top 12 candidates.

• After this round, only 5 delegates will continue in the next phase of the competition — the question-and-answer portion.

• The top 5 representatives this year are Nigeria, Mexico, Denmark, Thailand, and Venezuela.

• Venezuela’s Ileana Márquez caps off her MU2024 journey as the fourth runner-up.

• Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, who continued her country’s top 5 streak, has been hailed third runner-up.

• Host country Mexico’s very own Maria Fernanda Beltran finishes as second runner-up.

• Now down to two contestants who made history during the coronation night.

Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, is the first representative of her country to reach the spot.

Meanwhile, Danish delegate Victoria Kjær Theilvig is the first to bring Denmark to the final round of Miss Universe since 1967.

• The hosts called Miss Denmark as the 73rd Miss Universe winner.
