PAGASA: ‘Habagat’ season is over

But that doesn’t mean the last few months of the year will completely be storm-free.

But that doesn’t mean the last few months of the year will completely be storm-free.

On Monday, October 7, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the Southwest monsoon or ‘Habagat’ season is officially over.

PAGASA said that the declaration comes after their monitoring indicated a “significant weakening” of the Southwest monsoon over the country, coupled with “strengthening of the high-pressure system over East Asia” that caused the change in weather patterns.

Despite the closing of the ‘Habagat’ season, parts of the Philippines will continue to experienceisolated rainshowers and thunderstorms once in awhile.

For the month of October, meanwhile, three storms are expected to form insider or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

With this pronouncement, the country is now in the transition phase for the next monsoon season, the drier, but colder hanging Amihan or the Northeast monsoon.

The onset of the Amihan season is expected to be declared in the coming weeks.
