This, as the Health department reported two new cases.
On Wednesday, August 28, the Department of Health (DOH) reported two additional cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) in the Philippines.
According to the DOH, the first of these two is a 26-year-old woman, who is identified as case #13, is from Metro Manila.
While case #14 is a 12-year-old boy from the Calabarzon region in southern Luzon.
The health department also noted that the two new mpox cases contracted the milder Clade II strain of the mpox virus, and exhibited rahses, swollen lymph nodes, and fever.
Moreover, cases #13 and #14 have no recent travel history outside of the Philippines.
Prior to these patients, the Philippines previously reported on Monday, August 26, cases #11 and #12, who are both from Metro Manila.
Adding the two new cases recorded today, the active case count of mpox in the Philippines has increased to 5, with the total cases since 2022 now up to 14.
Nine past mpox patients, all of whom were reported prior to this year, have recovered from the disease.
