The island city-state is celebrating its “birthday” today.

On Friday, August 9, the Singapore National Day happens with a giant Parade, exactly 59 years to the day that it was removed from the federation of Malaysia in 1965.

The celebration, with the theme ‘Together As One United People,’ happens at the Padang, located right in front of the Singapore National Gallery in the state’s civic district.

It is also the occasion where the 40th anniversary of the nation’s Total Defence — an act where every sector of society is mobilized and has a part to play to ensure Singapore’s security — is commemorated.

According to organizers, the show will feature 12 artists and over 3,000 performers, while 27,000 spectators will be in attendance at the venue.

Plans also bared that an asymmetrical stage will offer performers “endless possibilities”during the show, while LED bannees spread throughout the area will offer a “360-degree immersive experience” to attendees.

Stage effects and pyrotechnics will also be made from the Padang Show Center ground.

Three short films exploring life in Singapore will also be played during the course of the program, respectively bearing the titles ‘Family,’ ‘Care and Compassion,’ and ‘We, the citizens of Singapore.’

Also part of the annual National Day Parade is the National Day Song, which for this year is titled ‘Not Alone’ and was written and sang by Benjamin Kheng.
