The Korean pop star has issued his statement on the matter.
On Wednesday, August 7, BTS member Suga issued an apology after being booked by the Seoul Yongsan Police Station for his violation of South Korea’s traffic laws on drunk-driving.
According to the statement of BTS’ parent label BigHit Music on the incident, as translated by entertainment website Soompi, Suga was said to have been riding an electric scooter around the neighborhood of Yongsam when he fell while driving.
A local policeman nearby assisted him to get up, but had smelled alcohol and took him to do a breath analyzer test.
BigHit then detailed that “nobody was hurt, and no property damage occurred due to the incident, and he was taken home under police custody.”
Suga, in his personal statement, acknowledged that he had committed a violation under Sourh Korea’s Road Traffic Act when he rode home an electric scooter while intoxicated due to his “complacent thinking.”
His driving license, he told, was also then revoked and was fined for the violation.
“Although there were no victims or damaged facilities in this process, it is entirely my responsibility without any excuse, and I sincerely apologize to everyone,” Suga wrote.
At present, the BTS member is serving as a public service worker after enlisting in the military in September 2023 and is expected to finish his duty in June 2025.
