Paris 2024 Summer Olympic games begin

Let the games begin!

Let the games begin!

For the first time ever, instead of taking place at a stadium, the opening of the games this year is staged on the scenic River Seine on Friday, July 26 (Paris time).

The Philippine team was led by boxers Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, who served as flagbearers.

Participants used a boat for the traditional parade of nations.

They are also both returning to the Olympics after previously participating and winning medals during the Tokyo games in 2021.

The Filipino athletes wore the ‘Sinag’ barong designed by Francis Libiran, which prominently features a sling patterned to the sun in the Philippine flag.

For this edition, 22 athletes in 9 different sports will be competing under the Philippine flag.

It also marks 100 years since the country first participated in the games in 1924 — which coincidentally took place in Paris, France as well.

PHILIPPINE BROADCAST

The local broadcast rights for the Paris games are with the MVP group, which had made it accessible to free-to-air viewers via One Sports and RPTV, on top of its availability on Cignal TV, Smart, and PLDT.
