The “collaboration era” of the rivals-turned-partners continues.
The partnership between the Philippines’ largest television network GMA and the country’s leading content provider ABS-CBN might soon give light to three new programs on free TV.
Sources say that GMA is either working to or has already acquired the broadcast rights to the ongoing Philippine adaptation of ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?’ on streaming platform Viu and stars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino.
If the plans do materialize, ‘WWWSK’ is due to premiere on GMA Network’s third primetime drama slot in June, replacing ‘Asawa Ng Asawa Ko.’
Notably, GMA already holds the rights to air the dubbed version of the original South Korean TV drama starring Park Min Young and Park Seo Joon in the Philippines.
Aside from that, the new season of ‘Pinoy Big Brother,’ which is now confirmed to be titled ‘Gen 11’ and has long been rumored to be making its Kapuso premiere this edition, is also reported to be part of the slate.
While the new ‘PBB’ has been confirmed to be making its debut in June 2024, the auditions are set to begin later this month and its broadcast platforms yet to be announced at the moment.
Should ‘PBB’ on GMA happen, it is allegedly going to air on GMA Prime’s fourth slot after “24 Oras,” a time slot typically reserved for acquired dramas.
Finally, GMA and ABS-CBN are also allegedly cooking their follow-up collaboration series, which will also be aired on the Kapuso network’s ‘Prime’ block this year.
This comes after their groundbreaking first-ever co-production ‘Unbreak My Heart’ starring Jodi Sta. Maria, Richard Yap, Joshua Garcia, and Gabbi Garcia.
That aired on what was then-known ‘GMA Telebabad’ primetime block from May to November 2023.
Currently, the Kapamilya and Kapuso partnership remains strong and the testament to that is the recent addition of ABS-CBN’s longest-running variety show ‘It’s Showtime’ to the flagship GMA channel’s noontime block.
That is on top of its broadcast on GMA platforms like GTV, GMA Pinoy TV, and livestreaming channel Kapuso Stream, as well as ABS-CBN’s platforms and free-to-air channel A2Z.
ABS-CBN and GMA have not yet made any comment regarding the matter.
