“Oh, shocks, birthday na ni Anne.”
Kapamilya actress and ‘It’s Showtime’ host Anne Curtis will surely be missed by our “kababayan” OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) on TV today.
Curtis, who is celebrating her 38th birthday, is currently in Australia to attend Taylor Swift ‘The Eras’ tour in Melbourne.
But, the ‘madlang people’ will definitely see her soon, as she promised to return to ‘Showtime’ next Saturday, February 24, with a special production number.
Anyhow, for Anne’s birthday, let’s take a trip down memory lane to some of her hilarious moments on ‘Showtime.’
“BIRTHDAY MO. BIRTHDAY KO?”
On top of the list is the moment that started this whole fuzz about her birthday.
In this episode from 2017, the sibling of a ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ contestant was in Saudi Arabia, which is why he wished for his brother’s return to the Philippines for Christmas.
Vice Ganda then shared that Filipinos working abroad feel “home sickness,” especially when they are not able to come home during important occassions.
Anne continued by giving out examples, such as “during Christmas and family celebrations.”
Vice added one more to the list: “birthday mo.”
Which had Curtis confused for a moment, which led her to asking: “Birthday ko?”
A funny moment ensued, as Vice jokingly apologizes on behalf of Anne for not being able to experience her birthday because they are abroad.
The clip has since been watched 1 million times on YouTube, and spawned memes across other platforms.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF PANCIT
Another that caught tickled netizens’ funny bones is Anne’s “bonus ingredient” in her pancit.
During a quiz segment, the birthday of a contestant’s sibling opened the topic about possible banquet like pancit.
Vice and Vhong agreed that the “homemade pancit” is a top-tier menu.
Out of the blue, Anne quipped “with lots of cheese,” which triggered cackles inside the studio.
Although, upon realizing the mistake, Anne quickly clarified that she was instead referring to spaghetti.
SINA-AG
Speaking of food, during this conversation in ‘Miss Q&A,’ a contestant was sharing how they conduct their ‘lugawan’ business.
Mid-convo, Anne asked what is “sinangag” to Vice, who answered “fried rice yung sinangag.”
But that did not stop there, as Anne drew more laughters when she said that she thought “sinangag sounds like a sabaw,” although she immediately distinguished it from sinigang, a popular stew in the Philippines.
PALAKANG…
Another legendary pre-pandemic ‘Showtime’ moment was when hosts talked about exotic foods, which include frogs.
That led to a discussion about frogs, where Vice brought up the myth about having warts when one has been peed upon.
Anne then shared that she heard that there is a certain type of frog that is considered clean.
“Pero, may malinis diba, yung mga palakang puk-… bukid!”
The near slip-up garnered immense laughters from inside the studio, including from Anne herself, who had teared up after that.
“OH NO!”
In another ‘Miss Q&A’ episode, Vice was telling a story about how she used to sell in their provisionary store and told how hard when their neighbors were buying ‘katol’ or mosquito repellent coil.
Usually, these coils come in twos, so Vice said she had to manually detach it if buyers were only asking for one.
In response to the story, Anne exclaimed “oh, no!”
DANCING WITHOUT MUSIC
Another forever iconic Anne Curtis moment on ‘Showtime.’
In 2018, while interviewing a contestant on ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan,’ Anne suddenly danced without any music.
This happened when Vice asked for the contestant’s origin, which at that time, would have swiftly been followed by a song as an amusing online challenge.
Unfortunately for Anne, no song was played out, leading to a burst of laughter from fellow hosts Jhong Hilario and Vice Ganda.
ANNE-OTHER SET OF FUNNY MOMENTS
Truth be told, she has plenty of hilarious acts on ‘Showtime’ that listing them one by one would take us until her next birthday (and maybe her next one, too).
So, let us drop more random clips here.
Happy birthday to the one and only ‘Pambansang Dyosa,’ Anne Curtis!
