Worldwide gross of Star Cinema’s ‘Rewind’ surpasses ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’

Fast forward to today, ‘Rewind’ has become the country’s new highest grossing film of all-time.

Days after becoming the highest-grossing film in the domestic box office, as well as in Metro Manila Film Festival’s history, ‘Rewind’ broke new record on Friday, January 26.

According to the latest figures from ABS-CBN’s film production arm, the drama movie starring Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera has recorded Php 889 million in worldwide gross as of today.

Currently, ‘Rewind’ is still being shown in 300 cinemas in the Philippines, USA, Guam, Saipan, and Canada.

It will also be part of the inaugural Manila International Film Festival, which begins on Monday, January 29 in California, USA.

This development makes ‘Rewind’ the new highest-grossing Filipino movie of all-time, surpassing ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye,’ another Star Cinema film, and hold the top spot of the box office sales records.

The 2019 movie starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards raked in a total of Php 880 million in worldwide box office during the entirety its theatrical run more than four years ago.

Trailing both ‘Rewind’ and ‘HLG’ is another Star Cinema film: the 2018 movie ‘The Hows of Us’ starring anew Kathryn Bernardo, this time with former real-life partner Daniel Padilla.

‘THOU’ made history when it became the Philippines’ first mega-blockbuster to reach the Php 800 million mark — it now currently holds the distinction of being the third highest-grossing Filipino movie of all-time.

Back to ‘Rewind,’ the SC movie serves as the silver screen comeback of celebrity power couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.

The last time they starred in a film together was back in 2010 for ‘You To Me Are Everything’.

Although, they have respectively made movies for Star Cinema in the past.

Dingdong, to date, has been in at least seven Star Cinema movies.

His latest prior to ‘Rewind’ was ‘Fantastica’ with Vice Ganda, which was the highest-grossing film during the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Rivera’s previous stint with the film outfit, meanwhile, was nearly a decade ago for the 2014 comedy-action movie ‘Kung Fu Divas’ with Aiai delas Alas.

After ‘Rewind,’ DongYan fans are able to catch the couple on-screen, this time on free television.

This, as their sitcom ‘Jose and Maria’s Bonggang Villa’ made its return for a second season last Saturday, January 20 on GMA Network.
