The Dennis Uy from the north and his namesake from the south are joining forces.
Last Thursday, January 11, DITO Telecommunity and Converge ICT signed a Materials Facilities Provisioning Agreement that will see both companies sharing some of their terrestrial and submarine fiber optics lines with one another.
Converge has 682,000 kilometers of fiber assets in November 2023. It is enough to cover 16.7 million households in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, DITO has a subscriber base of 9.5 million subscribers and operates 7,000 cell sites across the archipelago.
The infra-sharing agreement will see them work on limiting downtime for both telecom companies, as well as enhance connectivity and customer service nationwide.
Converge ICT Solutions was founded in 2007 by Dennis Anthony Uy, who hails from Pampanga in central Luzon, Philippines.
The company currently operates a fiber optic broadband network, as well as related businesses in cable television.
DITO, on the other side, was established in 2019 after its precursor Mislatel was rebranded to such name after Udenna Corporation and Chelsea Logistics owned by Davao-based Dennis Uy, and China Telecommunications Corporation made a consortium to become the Philippines’ latest “third telco.”
In 2021, the service was officially rolled out and at one point reached a total of 14 million subscribers before the SIM Registration Act was enacted, which later prompted them to deactivate unregistered SIM cards upon the deadline last July.
