TV5, CNN Philippines team-up for ‘E.A.T. Bulaga,’ PBA weekend broadcast

The Kapatid network has teamed-up with another station again.

In a joint statement on Friday, December 22, TV5 Network and Nine Media Corporation announced programming changes to CNN Philippines starting Saturday, January 6, 2024.

The said revamp will see the addition of two of TV5’s major programs: the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and noontime show ‘E.A.T. (Bulaga)’ to CNNPH’s weekend line-up.

According to both parties, the decision to carry both shows on channel 9 is part of TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan’s “vision of making high-quality content more accessible to Filipino households.”

The two Kapatid programs are no stranger to channel 9, hence, their entry to CNN Philippines weekend slot via TV5 this January will be a homecoming of sorts for them.

Firstly, the PBA will return to the frequency after more than a decade.

Its games were last aired on RPN-9 via Solar TV in 2010, before the channel was rebranded as ETC the following year.

PBA on CNN Philippines will air every Saturday and Sunday afternoon starting January 6, 2024. Sunday matches will continue to be seen on A2Z, PBA Rush, and Pilipinas Live app.

Meanwhile, for Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and the rest of their ‘Dabarkads,’ it will be a full-circle moment for them.

In 1979, ‘Eat Bulaga’ originally premiered as the noontime variety show of RPN-9.

After a little less than a decade, the program moved to ABS-CBN channel 2 in 1989, then to GMA in 1995.

Reports have also surfaced that the weekday episodes will then be simultaneously aired on CNN Philippines starting February.

In the meantime, ‘E.A.T. (Bulaga)’ will air every Saturday at 11:30 am on TV5 and CNN Philippines starting January 6, 2024.
