After 17 years, the iconic social media platform will be transformed into a new ‘everything’ app.
In an announcement on his account, Twitter owner Elon Musk said that the social networking platform will now go by the name ‘X’. An interim logo has also been rolled out today. Meanwhile, the domain x.com now also redirects to Twitter, as the site’s official account on the platform also given a makeover.
Musk, meanwhile, said to symbolize the rebrand, he will be “blowtorching” the Twitter logo outside of its office in San Francisco, USA. Originally launched in 2006, Musk acquired Twitter from its founder Jack Dorsey in 2022, and has since made a slew of changes in the platform, such as paid verification.
The rebranding takes place weeks after rival Meta of Mark Zuckerberg launched ‘Threads,’ which ties up with its Instagram platform. Threads gained 100 million sign-ups within days of its launch.
