The announcement comes as ‘Egay’ continues to intensify
(JULY 24, 2023) In an announcement this evening, transport group Manibela said that it is suspending the three-day strike it started on Monday. The group cited Typhoon Egay as a reason for the postponement of their plans.
The strike ignited by the group is said to be composed of 40,000 jeepneys which ply routes in Metro Manila. Nationwide, they claim to have 200,000 members. The reason for such is the continuing issue on the jeepney modernization program, which will effectively phaseout most of the traditional jeepneys with older engines, among other specifications.
Over the weekend, Malacañang Palace had also declared the suspension of work in government offices and classes as a response to the strike, as well as the inclement weather brought by the tropical cyclone.
