NUJP ABS-CBN Chapter issues statement on TeleRadyo’s upcoming closure

The ABS-CBN Chapter of the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines or NUJP released a statement on Tuesday evening on the imminent closure of TeleRadyo. Members call on the ABS-CBN management “to ensure TeleRadyo staff are given the commensurate benefits,” and “assisted in looking for employment…”

“We likewise seek assurance that ABS-CBN News will remain independent and committed to reporting only the truth,” the NUJP chapter also said in their statement.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, ABS-CBN announced the closure of TeleRadyo on June 30, 2023, after 16 years on the air. Along with that, the company also announced that it had entered into a joint-venture agreement with Prime Media Holdings, Inc., a firm owned by House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The JV “will produce various programs, which will be supplied to broadcasters and other 3rd party platforms including Philippine Collectivemedia Corporation,” ABS-CBN said in its statement.

Tina Turner, 83.

The legendary rock-and-roll singer passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday, May 24 (Switzerland time). Her publicist says that Turner “died peacefully in her home” in Küsnacht, Switzerland. Adding, “the world loss a music legend and a role model.”

Her death comes after years of ill health — she was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and had to undergo a kidney transplant a year later.

Songs like ‘Proud Mary’ and ‘Rollin’ on A River’ were just some of Turners biggest hits.

Netflix begins crackdown on ‘password-sharing’

In a notice on its website, Netflix announced that it has begun sending emails to users in the Philippines who share their account to others beyond their household. According to the streaming service, they will begin charging ₱149 for each “extra member that doesn’t live with you” under this rule.

Shotaro, Sungchan depart from NCT for new SM group; agency announce upcoming changes for the NCT system

In a statement released by South Korean entertainment agency SM Entertainment, they announced the departure of NCT members Sungchan and Shotaro from the group. According to SM, the two of them will re-debut in a new boy group outside of the NCT system. Both of them were added to the team during the NCT 2020 era.

Apart from that, SM Entertainment also announced that NCT’s newest group will be “the final group to be part of NCT’s infinite expansion.” The said group will be formed by new Japanese members, with its working title of ‘NCT Tokyo’ already unveiled in the past. Shohei, which was supposed to be part of that upcoming line-up, will no longer join due to health reasons.

Reporter clarifies CocoJul ‘relationship’ report

OOPS!

A few hours after the TV report, a clarification was released regarding the “12-year-relationship” of Coco Martin and Julia Montes. According to ABS-CBN News, the report and both Montes and Martin were supposedly referring to their on-screen partnership. The CocoJul love team began in ‘Walang Hanggan,’ which was aired in 2012.

The clarification comes after Martin drew flak online, as netizens accused him of ‘grooming’ Montes into entering a romantic relationship. 12 years ago, Montes was aged 16, which is still a minor, at that time. Meanwhile, Coco was already 29 years old.
