The chapter of the National Unuon of Journalists in the Philippines has given a statement on the matter.
(MAY 25, 2023) – The ABS-CBN Chapter of the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines or NUJP released a statement on Tuesday evening on the imminent closure of TeleRadyo. Members call on the ABS-CBN management “to ensure TeleRadyo staff are given the commensurate benefits,” and “assisted in looking for employment…”
“We likewise seek assurance that ABS-CBN News will remain independent and committed to reporting only the truth,” the NUJP chapter also said in their statement.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, ABS-CBN announced the closure of TeleRadyo on June 30, 2023, after 16 years on the air. Along with that, the company also announced that it had entered into a joint-venture agreement with Prime Media Holdings, Inc., a firm owned by House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The JV “will produce various programs, which will be supplied to broadcasters and other 3rd party platforms including Philippine Collectivemedia Corporation,” ABS-CBN said in its statement.
