(MAY 19, 2023) – Netizens were suprised on Friday after rumors of a Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean makjang drama ‘Penthouse’ spread on social media. According to various posts, the Filipino ‘Penthouse’ is speculated to be the second collaboration of GMA and ABS-CBN.
Along with the rumor, social media was then filled with the suggested casts for the still-unconfirmed Filipino remake of the Korean series. Names of Judy Ann Santos, Jodi Sta. Maria, Jennelyn Mercado, and Glaiza de Castro, were floated by the netizens as their picks for the Filipino version.
The Korean ‘Penthouse’ ran for three seasons on Korean broadcaster SBS from 2020 to 2021. It starred Lee Ji-ah, Kim Soyeon, Eugene, and Uhm Ki Joon. It was also the highest-rated series of the network during its run.
In the Philippines, GMA Network acquired the rights to broadcast the Filipino-dubbed and was aired from 2021 to 2022. Reruns have also since been aired on the Heart of Asia Channel.
GMA, ABS-CBN, and SBS have not made any statement yet regarding the rumored adaptation.
