Half of ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ house in Quezon City, demolished

Dubbed as ‘the most famous house’ in the country has been an iconic sight since 2005.

In social media posts over the past few days, several ABS-CBN staff and executives reminisced their memories of the ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ house, particularly the extension beside the famed house with the yellow and blue facade.

According to ABS-CBN Entertainment chief Laurenti M. Dyogi, who was also once part of the production team behind ‘PBB,’ the part that is being dismantled is the one that they utilized for the other franchised reality show ‘Pinoy Dream Academy,’ which aired for two seasons in the mid-2000s. Both the ‘PBB’ house and its extension building are located right across the street of ABS-CBN’s ELJ Building in Quezon City.

Later on, the site had been used for ‘PBB’ as a studio space and later on, ‘Star Hunt’ and even as quarters during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The upper floor, meanwhile, had been designated a pantry, a meeting area, and dressing rooms for ‘PBB’ hosts.

LMD also said that the decision to tear down the building was due to the expiration of the lease, with the ABS-CBN management finding it ‘impractical’ to continue renting the lot where it sits on. However, he clairified that the space due to be demolished is only half of the ‘PBB’ house, with the original house beside it being kept.

In a separate live video engagement, Dyogi said that he also hopes that they [ABS] could continue using the house for the next editions of the program. But he also hinted that they might soon look for a different place altogether where they can set the program, as he also thinks that “more than the house, it is the housemates” that make the show. These statements also clearly indicate that ABS-CBN still holds the rights for the local ‘Big Brother’ franchise.

Apart from Dyogi, hosts Bianca Gonzalez, Robi Domingo, also paid visit to the space for the last time. In her Instagram post, Gonzalez also shared her memories of the place, and even relayed statements by LMD.

‘Pinoy Big Brother’ has aired a cumulative of 16 editions since 2005, with the six seasons since 2014 being a fuse between regular adults, teens, and celebrities. The latest season of ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ was ‘Kumunity Season 10,’ which aired between October 2021 and May 2022. Anji Salvacion was declared the winner of the said batch.
